Behind the Scenes: What Imposter Syndrome Taught Me About Healing and Leadership

Imposter syndrome, we hear the phrase a lot—but for many of us, especially adult children of immigrants and BIPOC professionals, it’s not just a buzzword. It’s a lived experience that shows up in our careers, relationships, and inner dialogue in ways that can quietly chip away at our confidence.

For me, imposter syndrome didn’t disappear overnight. It’s been a process of deep self-inquiry, therapy, and learning to meet my doubts with compassion instead of shame. Growing up, I was constantly balancing cultural expectations, high achievement, and family dynamics that didn’t always leave room for emotional validation. That tension often left me feeling like I had to prove my worth—over and over again.

But something began to shift when I started unpacking those early beliefs. In therapy, I learned how my nervous system was wired for survival, not ease. I began to unlearn the story that I had to be perfect to be worthy. I learned how to self-validate. I started celebrating my wins, no matter how small. I realized I could hold self-doubt and still move forward.

Recently, I reflected more deeply on this journey in a featured interview with Bold Journey. I shared how my healing has shaped not just who I am as a therapist, but also how I lead, mentor, and hold space for others—especially those navigating the same identity intersections I know so well.

Here’s what I’ve come to believe:
Imposter syndrome doesn’t mean you’re not capable. It means you’re growing.
You don’t have to wait until you feel 100% ready to show up authentically.
Self-awareness and self-trust are the foundations of true leadership—especially when you’re breaking generational cycles.
